Few artists can say they have been pursuing their craft since childhood, and Afton Prater is one of them. She picked up her first guitar at age 11, wrote her first song the following year, and by her early teens was already traveling to Nashville to record original music. What began as a fifth-grade dream has grown into a lifelong dedication to songwriting and performance.

 

Raised on a wide range of musical influences, from Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley spinning on her grandparents’ record player to Bruce Springsteen playing in the family home, Afton developed a sound rooted in storytelling, grit, and emotional honesty. She describes her music as a blend of Miranda Lambert’s edge and Taylor Swift’s narrative strength, drawing inspiration from artists such as Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Kacey Musgraves, and Dolly Parton. These influences shape her ability to deliver lighthearted, fun anthems alongside bold, high-energy tracks and deeply emotional, soul-driven songs.

 

Afton’s songwriting and performance have earned industry recognition and critical praise, leading to performances for audiences of more than 30,000 people and opportunities to share the stage with nationally recognized country artists, including Kelsea Ballerini, Chris Janson, Craig Campbell, and Drake White. She has appeared at radio pre-events outside CenturyLink Field in conjunction with Kenny Chesney concerts and collaborated with Sunset Trucks, featuring her song ‘I Want a Truck’ in regional advertising campaigns across the Pacific Northwest.
